Krakenware Bone China Teapot

Introducing KRAKENWARE. A Bone China Teapot made in Stoke and decorated and fired by myself with illustrations by the creative powerhouse Clive Hicks-Jenkins.
CHJ drew the elements of this design for use in the making one of our animated films for the marvellous @sussex_lustreware. Playing around with the layers one day, I realised it could make a great take on traditional willow pattern transferware.
Many, many months, of extensive experimentation, tears and tantrums later, I arrived at the indigo needed to hold its own against the strong and gleaming negative spaces which are synonymous with Japanese ware. The handmade small batch nature of this work means that they are subject to very slight colour fluctuations between pieces like the traditional ware which inspired this work.
Because of the translucency of fine bone china, a tealight popped in at night with the lid off, transforms this teapot into a charming soft lamp.
